Mens Team beat Battery Park Gunners

The Greeks beat Battery Park Gunners yesterday 5-4 in penalty kicks after tying 2-2 in regulation and overtime in the US Amatuer National Cup Regional Semi-Final.

Christian Camacho scored two wonder strikes during the game. The penalty kick takers were Joe Ruesgen (the only miss!), Idris Mashriqi, Chris Megaloudis, Yahaya Musa, Nick Viaggio, Andre Fonseca. Steven Diaz saved the sudden death penalty kick to win the game.

“To travel to Boston with only 13 players, 2 of whom were goalkeepers, and beat the defending national champions is a true credit to all the guys and the Greek-American organization. Everyone who traveled gave it absolutely everything and battled for the whole 120 minutes. It was a grueling challenge against a very talented and physical team and we are all absolutely delighted with the outcome.”

“Camacho scored two amazing goals that were worthy of winning any game and Steven Diaz came up big on several occasions so we had a feeling that we had the luck on our side too. Even when I missed the opening penalty kick, there was never any doubt in our minds that we were not going to win the game. We had put so much effort into the performance that we just had to win. We were all so happy when Diaz saved the penalty! It really was an amazing performance by all the guys and I really can’t say enough about them, I was so proud of us all.”

“Most importantly it keeps our National Championship dreams alive and gives us a great boost going into Thursday’s CSL playoff game.”

Cheers,

Joe.
